Ready to Sleep, Forever
A timeless moment.
Still.
I was studying the leaves to learn from them.
I noticed how easily they let go. Gentle, unassuming, bright yellow, whispering their way to the ground.
My mom’s voice was echoing in the earpiece as I listened to her share. Every sound she made was produced twice over. The warble in the field split me in two, as the successive soundwaves undulated and grew my head wide as they played ping pong inside the walls of my mind.
I lost sense of location and time.
My eyes grew buggy. My sight, compromised - all from a glitch in the matrix that streamed from her trailing stories on the other end of the line.
And the leaves. I noticed the leaves, painless in their departure from the tree, ready to sleep forever.
